It is a popular belief that you are supposed to suck out the poison, but don't do so. That way, the poison is still in your body, and you don't want that. The better alternative is to, if e.g. you were bitten in your lower leg (where you most probably will be bitten), tie something like a strip of your t-shirt around your leg above and below the bite, in order to stop the impoisoned blood from circulating in your body. If you haven't done it so far, you should call the ambulance as fast as possible, maybe describing the snake that bit you so that they can assure they've got the right antidote with them.
