By the traditional definition, EMTs, don't have any continuity of care. Their job is to scoop the patient up and drop them off at the emergency room where a doctor an care for them.
Continue to monitor the patient until help (EMS) arrives.

Call EMS after you have given care to the infant for 2 minutes. Better yet, if someone else is available to make the call, they can call right away while you administer care.
You monitor the child until EMS personal arrive. (Assuming you did call EMS after giving 2 minutes of care.)
The Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Services work together in providing care to the injured before getting to the hospital. The EMS consists of ambulances and can get to the hospital quick when needed.

I'd say it usually takes about 1 week, ems are usually quite fast at delivery. as when its in the uk, parcel force take care of the package and when its usually in there hands u get it within 24hours.
