1. Fear of Death and Destruction:-

War is a horrible thing. The 20th century had seen two world wars. World War II was more terrible than all the wars of the past. It left 50 million people dead. The Wars left a legacy of misery and depression in nearly every country. Many cities and towns were razed to the ground. Countless industrial estates and business centre were destroyed by the bombs. Thus, the fear of World War III in future promoted the nations of the world to form a better international organization which could prevent future wars, and promote peace and good will among the nations of the world.

2. Most Terrifying Weapons:-

The worst aspect of the situation is that there are no winners in a nuclear war. The use of nuclear bombs by the United States on Japan brought before the world a new kind of threat. It also made the world realize that a full scale nuclear war can only results in complete disaster with lose of many lives.

3. Failure of League of Nations:-

The need for the UN also emerged from the total failure of the League of Nations, which was established after the World War I. Though the aim of the League was to promote peace and security in the world and to prevent any future wars, it failed miserably. Within a decade after its formation, the world became divided into two power blocs and by 1939 the world was fighting the World War II. It soon became apparent that the League as an international organization was incapable of maintaining peace and security any longer.
