The 24th of October is United Nations Day. It is part of United Nations Week, from 20th to 26th of October. This day is the birthday of the United Nations! It is the anniversary of the Charter of the United Nations, the day on which the United Nations was formally established after a majority of its founding members ratified the treaty. The United Nations has adopted resolutions setting down that this day should be one on which "shall be devoted to making known to the peoples of the world the aims and achievements of the United nations and to gaining their support for" its work. In 1971 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a further resolution recommending that United Nations Day should be an international holiday and recommended it becoming a public holiday in the UN's member states. It is observed as such in Kosovo, which is administered by UN mission. UN Day is marked by a concert in the GA Hall, and videotape messages from the Secretary General and President of the General Assembly.
