Sequoia sempervirens is the last surviving species of the genus Sequoia in the cypress family Cupressaceae. Common names include coastredwood, giant redwood, and Californiaredwood. Stretching as tall as 375 feet (115 metres), they provide a home to a variety of mammals, birds such as the Spotted owl and the Marbled Murrelet, reptiles, and amphibians.
