Why are only Muslims considered terrorists?

They are misinformed and probably do not personally know any Muslims.

It comes from an unfortunate tendency for human being to generalize from small samples. Thus, the only "Muslims" some people know of are of the 9/11 terrorists. As these are the only Muslims known, people then assume that all Muslims are like that.

This is an example of stereotyping. Stereotyping, in its extreme, can lead to racism, classism, gender bias, and a whole host of other problematic behaviors.

From a anthropological/behavioral science standpoint, stereotyping is an evolutionary survival mechanism; it allows a person to make some base assumptions about how to react to a situation based on prior experience. However, it needs to be countered by willingness to expand experiencial knowledge based on new facts.

This is only a generalization. Not all Muslims are terrorists, and not all terrorists are Muslim.

People who are prejudiced against Muslims may tell you otherwise.

This is just the media trying to scare people into buying papers for their personal profit. It is just the failing governments trying to provide their people with a false sense of security.

There are terrorists in every single religion.

KKK, IRA, NLFT, LRA and so on, for example, are Christian terror groups which still exist to this day. In fact, throughout history, there have been more acts of terrorism committed by Christianity than there have been by Islam. The earliest example probably being the unprovoked and unnecessary crusades which saw innocent women and children senselessly slaughtered by Christian "soldiers".

There are generally two types of Muslims.

• Fundamental Islam - a false and Propaganda religion which followers are encouraged to commit acts of war or sacrifice against others in order to gain access to the afterlife. This is followed by Islamic terrorists. They are NOT true Muslims.
• Traditional Islam - the true form of Islamic religion which believes in peace, love and acts of charity. These are the real Muslims.

While most Muslims are peaceful, Muslims are disproportionately responsible for acts of terrorism. It is this confusion between a virulent and violent minority and the non-problematic majority that leads people to the simplistic conclusion that all or most Muslims are bad.

As far as the evidence goes, most Muslims are peaceful. Islamic terrorism is a very small percentage of the Muslim population, just as terrorists in general are a minimal part of the population. Terrorists make up less than 1% of Muslims (it is estimated that there are roughly 300,000 Jihadists in the world out of 1.6 billion Muslims). The reason that this <1% of Muslims are so infamous is that Jihadists are responsible for an inordinate share of casualties from terrorism. In the last ten years, over 85% of terrorist incidents and 85% terrorist-related fatalities were perpetrated by Muslims.
