The Praying Mantis dosen't really own an "Element", for all we know it could bring good and/or bad luck.
Most people who believe in superstitions believe they bring you good luck. Some believe, (like me) when a praying mantis appears it brings good luck, but the luck won't last long if the insect is harmed. If one lands on your arm, you're going to meet an important person, if it lands on your head, you will receive honor or recognition. Some have said that when you see a praying mantis kneel, angels are near. The Greek thought that mantids were soothsayers or diviners able to fortell the future. Many Africans worshiped them as gods or spirits and considered their presence a sign of good luck. Never kill a praying mantis though, I strongly believe that is bad luck. Hope I answered your question.
They are good for insect control, they are helpful in classrooms to teach about insect life cycles and some even say they bring you good luck if you see one. They also make sweet, noiseless pets.

No, but meditating beetles do. They eat their mates as well! Actually I live in south central Montana and just found a praying mantis in my yard this past weekend Aug-2012. I wonder if its the heat that brought them this far north??

Birds and other animals do not bring luck, good or bad.
Anything that you believe to bring you good luck just might actually bring you good luck. As long as you have something that you believe to give you luck, you should have the confidence to do what you want to do. Common things for luck: Rabbit foot, 4-leaf clover, good luck charms, lucky rocks. Anything you believe to be lucky.
They love crickets. I have had a couple of praying mantises before. You can usually buy a bag of crickets at the pet store for a dollar for10. it is fun to watch the crickets get devoured. Hope you have fun and I wish you the best of luck! They usually live 1-2 years.
Mistletoe is often hung over doors to bring good luck.
