Not sure exactly what kind of plant you're dealing with but it is most likely one of the many types of carnivorous plants. Although there are a few exceptions, most CPs require lots of light, a peat based soil that is often kept moist (some species do like dry periods so it helps to know specifically what kind you have), high humidity, pure but slightly acidic water with little to no dissolved solids, and no fertilizer! The last bit is very important. Fertilizer will kill most CPs. They get their nutrients from the insects they eat. Temperature is a tough one. CPs grow on almost every part of the planet and live in a variety of conditions. Some are tropical and some go dormant in winter. Each species is highly specialized for specific conditions. You'll need to identify which one you have if you want more detailed information. If you have a reputable garden centre or nursery near you, I'd take it in and ask if they know which one you have. Otherwise, you can try uploading some photos and see if anyone recognizes it. Once you have a name, it will be a lot easier to find information.
