It is best to let butterflies go when they have bee caught. They are very delicate insects and their wings break very easily. The butterflies wings are made up of tiny scales and touching them can cause a lot of damage to the structure. This can cause the butterfly to loose its ability to fly, and can therefore ultimately cause the insect to die. It is therefore best to leave the butterfly alone in its natural environment, and release one when it has been caught.

But if you want to keep it [only for a day, tops] I would get a pickle jar,a big one, then poke holes in the lid so it is able to breathe, then put a few flowers in the bottom of the jar. Try to make the jar the image of were you found it. But, it is best to let the butterfly go once caught.
