Squids excrete a black ink which darkens and clouds the water, making it difficult for predators to see them. Then they use their arms and siphon to push themselves away danger.
Squid have eight arms surrounding their head. Each arm is equipped with suckers. They also have two tentacles, which are longer than the arms. These tentacles have wide, leaf-shaped spatulas at their tips that are are covered in four rows of suckers. Each suction cup is surrounded by hooks. These two tentacles are the squid's main defence as well as for catching prey. Squid also produce sepia, an ink-like substance that is released through the animal's anus.
They spit at their enemies.
