no tarantulas are not smart, they don't even have a brain (ahhh poor tarantula!) they have a nerve bundle called a ganglion which works very primitively on stimulus response actions. while they can learn new actions such as tapping the tank it lives each time it's feed it will associate the with food but it doesn't think about it. not acn you train an aggressive tarantula to behave nicely.
