Lady beetles live for a couple of years. They hibernate in a crevice.

She lays 6 - 10 yellow elongate eggs under a leaf. The nymph/caterpillar stage is very active.

In NZ (Otago) we have some black ones with red spots/splotches.

They used too be collected in huge numbers for the extraction of a red food dye, cochineal. The family is Coccinella.
