They build a cocoon - which hatches in the summer - depending on where you are - ours hatched here in Seattle in July - need temps around 75 degrees. Dozens of little mantids appeared - they hung out on the netting of their cocoon container for a few weeks then wandered away. Found them all grown up in Oct. while cleaning up the garden.
