It depends on the size of the filter you are using. They range in size from 36sqft to 48sqft and also 60sqft. It should be labled on the filter. Then its just a matter of pounds of DE. My filter is 36sqft and I use 7 pounds. easy to measure with an old standard coffee can whch holds approx. 1 pound of DE.
