In a cocoon a caterpillar changes into a moth or butterfly. But if they fall they will die so if you get a caterpillar take good care don't handle to much
Once a caterpillar is ready to transform into a butterfly, it wraps itself up into a cocoon, made out of it's food, saliva and leaves. It will stay their for about 2 weeks- as much as a month.
Butterflies can be symbols of hope, beauty, and new life. A butterfly begins as a caterpillar, small, helpless, and typically ugly. When it comes out of the cocoon, it has been transformed into a beautiful butterfly, a creature capable of spreading its wings and soaring towards the sky. The world looks pretty pitiful from the standpoint of a caterpillar, but before long its life will have a much different, more hopeful outlook.
It's a process called metamorphosis - triggered by genes in the caterpillars body. After a caterpillar hatches from an egg, it basically spends all its time eating - growing and preparing its body for the change to a butterfly. During the caterpillar stage, it moults its skin three times - growing larger each time. Eventually, it spins a silk cocoon, and the transformation takes place over a number of days. While hidden in the cocoon, the caterpillars body is literally re-built - growing legs, wings, and flight muscles.
when I had one i kept its cage clean and it eats most plants [non poisonous] and they love carrots. I gave mine carrot shreds and they love it. after this for a while they pupate. [go into a cocoon] and eventually they hatch as adult black swallowtails. Remember to let them stretch their wings before they can fly. Sorry if too much info...
as much as he desires.
it depends on the caterpillar. I have the caterpillar that makes those giant webs on trees. But I only have one so he can't do much but he can't pee. but he can POOP!
First of all, the larva doesn't spend very much time in the cocoon. Shortly (around a few hours to a day) after the larva spins the cocoon it molts into the pupal stage. the pupa can remain in the cocoon for any amount of time as it depends on the time of year.
it eats your mom

The pupa stage is the stage of the caterpillar. The monarch caterpillars colours are black, white and yellow. You would find them on milkweed, which is not much of a weed. So once again, the word pupa means caterpillar. :)
Caterpillars are delicate insects so be gentle when touching them. A caterpillar needs a clear container with space and breathing holes (use toothpick & make up to 25) In your clear container fill the bottom with maple and apple tree leaves( both leaves taste sweat to a caterpillar) Place inch long twigs throughout the container and perch only one( for cocoon) Every three days all of this should be replaced if you have more then 5 (if you have one change every thing weekly) Caring for a cocoon if similar, just replace the leaves when they start to crimple up caring for a butterfly is not simple you must having lots of space for it, sugar water, and orange slice and healthy flowers. People Usually release the caterpillar once its a butterfly! But, Many others think moths are much more simple, just create space and but sqaures of whool in the container as well as a light that they follow thinking it's the moon.
