Not a lot of information on the dumbo octopus is available because it is so elusive. They stand out among octopuses for being pelagic -- that is to say they swim around in the middle of the water instead of crawling about on the sea floor. They also live quite deep in the ocean and this makes them very difficult to find.
The oil sea snake hunts the dumbo octopus.
A dumbo octopus (an octopus of the genus Grimpoteuthis) has earlike fins sticking out of its body, but a regular octopus does not. The dumbo octopus also has webbing between its tentacles.
