Wellbutrin, or bupropion, is classified as an atypical antidepressant and is considered an "upper" because it primarily acts as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). It can increase levels of certain neurotransmitters, which may lead to increased energy and improved mood. Unlike traditional stimulants, it is used to treat depression and help with smoking cessation, but it does not have the same stimulating effects as amphetamines.
