The packaging tells you 24 hrs after putting product on.You do need to treat the house with flea spray and also the cat bed as fleas tend to dwell in carpets as well.

Use a proprietary flea-collar, or use a spot-on treatment as well as using a flea comb at least once a day to get rid of any adult fleas. If your cat has fleas, you need to treat the house, too. Wash all bedding, carpets, and other fabrics in the house frequently. Be sure to vacuum clean carpets, also. Eggs and larvae can live in carpets (and the vacuum cleaner bag) for months at a time, so vigilant cleaning is a must. Be sure to put a flea collar in the vacuum cleaner bag or replace with a new bag after each use. This ensures the bag doesn't become a place where eggs and larvae can grow and hatch!
Give your cat a bath using Dawn original blue dish soap. It will kill the fleas! I didn't believe it worked, but after trying several products from the vet and over-the-counter, I decided to try it. It worked better than anything else I tried!
Dawn dish soap works wonders on pets with fleas!
Put the cat on a clean, well-lit surface like a table or a clean patch of floor. Comb its fur with a fine-toothed comb. If you see little brown specks falling out onto the floor or table, and in the comb, then the cat has fleas. The little brown specks are flea poop.
Fleas are really common. Dogs can get fleas from other dogs, cats and grass. Identify where you think they got fleas from and stop this, so they don't keep getting fleas. You have to treat carpets, sofas and the whole house if the infestation is quite bad. Hoovering is the best way to get rid of most fleas and their eggs. Fleas lay eggs in crack and gaps so concentrate on these areas. Medication for getting rid of fleas on the dog will only work if you solve the carpet/sofa issue. You can get drops to put on the back of the dogs neck. These are really effective because it doesn't kill the fleas - it means the eggs the fleas lay won't survive, so you break the life-cycle. Flea shampoos are not effective - normal water and soap will kill fleas. Pills for fleas are also not recommended as they only kill the fleas that are on the dog - not in the carpets. If these methods don't work, get an exterminator in to gas the whole house!
OK ...... Fleas don't like human hair because it isn't warm enough so the will only stay in your hair if they desprate if you have fleas then get a fine hairbrush (close toothed brush) and you must comb you hair thurely and the fine brush wil push them out and make sure you do it over a bason of warm or cold water for the fleas to fall in so the don't jump back Hope this helps Ericococ

There are many natural products you can buy and one is 'Sergaents Nature's Guardian. You can also go to a large Health Food Store and ask their advice. Putting a small amount of crushed garlic or (no odor garlic oil) into your dog or cat's food is also said to repel fleas. When giving the oil please check with your vet to be sure how much you should give your dog or cat. The old saying 'if you have a cat, you have fleas' is true. Still, just having a dog that is out in the backyard off and on is enough to bring fleas indoors. People also bring fleas into the home! If someone is cutting their lawn they will often bring in fleas without knowing it. Fleas love the corners of rooms so every day vacuuming is a MUST and get in those corners as well as vacuuming carpets, mats, under the cushions of sofas and the sofas.. I use a piece off a flea collar in my vacuum bag and you can also do this with a natural flea collars. It is best to use a spray or oil put between the dog or cat's shoulder blades rather than a flea collar of any sort. Flea collars can often cause irritation around the neck of pets.
You can put rugs on carpets so your carpets wont be stained. There is nothing you can actually put on a carpet other than a rug to prevent staining, you can only deal with a stain once it has happened.
Don't give a cat garlic. It can affect their liver. Try brewer's yeast.
