It's best to call in a professional as bedbugs are very good at hiding and can go for long periods of time without eating.

Things to do at home yourself:

  • Vacuuming. Thoroughly vacuum your living space especially around where humans and animals sleep, eat, and walk around), including furniture (especially mattresses, couches, chairs, etc.), and get in all cracks and crevices to remove them from an area. Vacuum under picture frames, around the baseboards, behind and under furniture, everywhere, really. But vacuum cleaners can't reach all hiding places. Change the bag outside and often. Make sure none are on the vacuum cleaner when you bring it inside.
  • Hot water. Washing everything possible, such as all clothing, bedspreads, throw rugs, and other items in hot water. Temperature of 120 F (49 C) can kill bedbugs.
  • Clothes dryer. Placing wet or dry items in a clothes dryer set at medium to high heat for 20 minutes will kill bedbugs and their eggs.
    • You have to do these things and gathering up all clothing, inside drawers, closets, bags, etc. many times over weeks to get rid of them in case you've missed a couple. Even one left could result in more and more of them in due time.
    • There are professionals that can heat your home so you don't have to do all this work, but it is expensive, but worth it in the long run as home remedies can cost you just as much, but with more stress. Loss of furniture and ruined clothing, etc. Also professionals can use other methods to help remove and kill the bedbugs other than heat.
