A mole's diet consists mainly of earthworms and insects, but may also include small mammals such as mice. Their saliva contains a toxic acid that will paralyze earthworms, allowing them to store their still living prey for later consumption. Before eating earthworms, moles pull them between their squeezed paws to force the collected earth and dirt out of the worm's gut.

Moles are not rodents. They belong to the insectivora family and their nearest relatives are shrews.
