yes it does first it hathes then after a couple of months it is a bigger and then it turns into a cacoon and after a couple months it come's out of the cacoon as a butterfly
probably a monarch butterfly. its light green and comes from a yellow black and white striped caterpillar. it turns into a bright orange and black butterfly

When a butterfly hatches it actually has to fight it's way out of the cacoon so the liquid is blood from the butterfly bleeding when it struggles to get out

No they do not because if they did it would change their divelopment (makeing the butterfly deformed)
They are very unique, u grow them, let them cacoon and that's it. (added on ----->>>> They lead very interesting lives... some short some long. watching the process from caterpiller to cacoon is amazing. watching the meta morphisis from caterpiller ---> cacoon ---> to butterfly... Very enlightenng experience!
