Persephone, after eating the pomegranate seeds had to spend half the year in the Underworld and so became Queen as the wife of Hades, King of the Underworld.
Persephone was taken to the Underworld by Hades. He then tricked her into eating 6 pomegranate seeds which is why she now lives there for 6 months a year.
She marries Hades and becomes Queen of the Underworld.
Persephone did not actively make a mistake in Greek mythology. However, she was abducted by Hades, which led to her becoming the queen of the Underworld and spending part of the year there, causing the cycle of the seasons.

Demeter had to compromise with allowing Persephone to spend part of the year in the Underworld with Hades because of the agreement struck between Hades and Zeus. This compromise was the result of Persephone eating six pomegranate seeds in the Underworld, which bound her to spend a portion of each year there.
It was a trick so she'd have to occasionally return to the underworld.
There are many versions of how it happened that Persephone ate a few seeds of the pomegranate. In one of them Hades tricks her into it by first telling her that she is now free to go. Persephone then rejoices and let's her guard down and that is when he slips a few seeds into her mouth; she either doesn't notice or automatically swallows them. She probably didn't agree to eat them.
In Greek mythology she's forced down with Hades for eating the pomegranate seeds, there's no changing her fate.

It was only 4 months, Hades tricked Pheresphone into eating 4 pomegranate seeds. Eating anything from the Underworld condemns you their for a month, so Pheresphone had to stay in the Underworld for 4 months each year (Winter).
