There are multiple approaches besides using poison chemicals in your yard or garden to kill or detour snails. Dried eggs shells crushed and displayed in a thin row like strips of thin copper both deter them from passing through to your precious food or flowers. If you feel a bit more aggressive or malicious you can go out at night and cut them in half to kill them but my favorite is to let them die happy with too much beer. Seriously, a tuna can or similar small vessel let in the ground can be filled with any old or stale beer and they come and feast till their demise. (Remember waste no micro-brews on them except for yourself to supervise.)
