The majority of worker bees will die whilst out foraging for pollen or nectar since that is the activity they most frequently undertake during the latter stage of their life. Those who defend the hive by stinging an intruder - anything from a wasp to a human to a dog sticking its nose in the entrance - will die as the sting remains in its victim and effectively disembowels the bee doing the stinging.

A drone (male) that successfully mates with a queen bee also dies in the process - in similar fashion to the stinger mentioned above, except that he loses his reproductive organs! Those drones around at the end of the warm weather in Autumn are ejected from the hive by the workers to starve &/or die from the cold weather overnight.

It is a tough life being a honey bee.
