The crab is in the crustaceans.
Crabs are grouped in various ways with other arthropods, being in a major taxonomic group called a phylum (Arthropoda) all of whom are characterized by hard exoskeletons, joint appendages, and segmented bodies. Since arthropods are such a major group, branching classifications below it also can be said to be crab "groups" or taxa. For example, they are in a subphylum Crustacea, class Malacostraca, order Decapoda, and suborder and infraorder Pleocyemata and Brachyura respectively.
