Wasps appear not to like the scents of eucalyptus and mint. We used these two in their essential oil form, put drops of it on the porch railing, and voila! Wasps seem to fly towards the railing edge, and then veer sharply away from it. The scent seems to form a palpable shield to the scent receptors of the wasps, and they for sure do not like it.
The main thing is to use the essential oil, not just diluted scent. Eucalyptus and mint.
A lot less bother than trying to wage war with them, to my mind.
