I haven't really found anything to keep them away but I have noticed that when I have Skin-So-Soft by Avon on my skin then the will NOT land all over me! I use the Skin-So-Soft for mosquitoes also! Mix it with a bit of mouthwash (Listerine) in a small spray bottle an shake an spray on your body! Works realy great an your skin feels better an smells better than the store bought stuff! Plus you are saving money! A large thing of Skin-So-Soft is $9 an Listerine is like maybe $2 or $3 an it will last for more than a month, even with using it every nite! Good luck!

Not only does lavender repel lice, but it repels most bugs (including spiders)
Cedar is a great wood to burn if you want to repel bugs. I wouldn't stop with wood though, there are a number of plants you can burn as well. Some plants to try are citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, and thyme.
You can use marigolds to keep bugs away from your garden by planting them around the perimeter of your garden or interspersing them among your other plants. Marigolds have a strong scent that repels many insects, acting as a natural insect deterrent.
Repels work in all locations.

Rosemary repels bed bugs primarily due to its strong scent, which contains compounds like camphor and 1,8-cineole that are unappealing to these pests. These natural oils disrupt the bugs' ability to detect carbon dioxide and other cues that attract them to hosts. Additionally, the antimicrobial properties of rosemary can create an inhospitable environment for bed bugs, further discouraging their presence. Using rosemary as a repellent can be part of a broader strategy for pest control.
