While handling of tarantulas is not supported by most breeders, many people like the novelty of being able to hold a large spider. It should only be done in controlled circumstances to lessen the chances of injury to the spider. While the best method is simply to move them into a catch cup using long tongs (and thus avoid touching the T) there are relatively safe methods to pick up MOST tarantulas. Easiest is to let it crawl onto the open hand. The hand-cupping method is also used. Pinch-pickup is used but must be done with extreme care. They should never be picked up by the legs. New-World Ts are easier to handle than Old World. Remember there is always risk to both the T and to the handler during handling times.
