Probably one of the most interesting aspects of ants is that they wage war on one another. Two colonies will send out battalions of warriors to fight with one another. Then, the victorious warriors will come home with the spoils of battle. They capture the enemy's eggs to be raised in their colony, take all the food and useful things from that colony, and may in some cases capture the queen. However, when an ant colony meets another for the first time, they will each send out a champion to fight on their behalf. This way, the colonies can decide on who is where on the level of superiority without the deaths of so many fighters. Some ants will even merge colonies to create a supercolony.
Ants that have been wounded in battle are not abandoned by their fellow warriors. When the fight ends, they will be carried back home where they are nursed back to health.
