If I'm not mistaken (I'm not really sure of this) is due to the ″Chlorophyll″ levels in the leaves, the more Chlorophyll the leaves have, the darker it gets.

What color of light is reflected by leaves?

Leaves appear green because they reflect green light while absorbing other colors. This is due to the presence of chlorophyll, a pigment that absorbs most wavelengths of light except green.

Do green leaves absorb the maximum amount of light?

Green leaves primarily absorb light in the blue and red wavelengths, while reflecting green light, which is why they appear green. However, they do not absorb the maximum amount of light across all wavelengths; other pigments, such as carotenoids, can absorb additional wavelengths. Overall, while green leaves are efficient at capturing light for photosynthesis, they do not absorb all available light equally.

Can green leaves absorb lots of colours except green?

Yes, green leaves absorb light from various parts of the spectrum, primarily red and blue wavelengths, while reflecting green light, which is why they appear green to our eyes. Chlorophyll, the pigment in leaves, plays a crucial role in this process by capturing light energy for photosynthesis. Consequently, while green leaves can absorb many colors, they do not utilize the green wavelengths effectively, leading to their characteristic color.

Why doesn't green light promote photosynthesis?

Green light does not promote photosynthesis because it is reflected off of a plants leaves. While most plants absorb all other wavelengths of electromagnetic rays from the sun, they reflect the wavelength for green light.

Liaves are green in colour due to the presence of?

chlorophyll, a green pigment that is responsible for absorbing light energy for photosynthesis. This pigment gives leaves their green color by reflecting green light wavelengths, while absorbing other wavelengths for energy conversion.

Why leaves have green color?

Leaves are green because they contain a green-coloured pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll allows the leaves to capture sunlight and change it from light energy to chemical energy during photosynthesis.

What other pigments exist in green leaves and what is their functions?

Carotenoids can be found in green leaves which are hydrocarbons that are multiple shades of yellow and orange. Some carotenoids function as photoprotection, they absorb and dissipate excessive light energy that would otherwise harm the chlorophyll.

Leaves appear green because the green protion of the light that strikes them is what?

Reflected. The other colors of the light spectrum are absorbed. In fact, this is how all 'color' works - whatever the object. A red ball, a white shirt, etc. The color you see is the color being reflected back at your eyes, while the other colors are absorbed by the object.

What is the light trapping pigment found in leaves?

The light trapping pigment found in leaves is primarily chlorophyll. It exists mainly in two forms: chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b, which absorb light most efficiently in the blue and red wavelengths. This absorption is crucial for photosynthesis, as it allows plants to convert light energy into chemical energy. Additionally, chlorophyll gives leaves their green color, as it reflects green light while absorbing other wavelengths.

What happens when you pass a green filter through light?

When a green filter is passed through light, it selectively absorbs all colors of light except green. This means that only green light passes through the filter, while other colors are absorbed. The result is that the light appears green in color after passing through the filter.

Which filter will transmit green light?

A green filter will transmit green light by allowing only green wavelengths to pass through while absorbing other wavelengths.

Is light reflected or absorbed when it hits leafs?

It is both absorbed and reflected. since light is made of: red, orange, yellow, green.blue, indigo, and violet all the colors except whatever color the leaf is, is absorbed and the color of the leaf reflected.
