Yes, red worms will eventually die in water. But red worms CAN live in water for several days if it has sufficient oxygen. I thought that red worms drown in water. It had been raining for several days in my garden. I have a igloo in my garden that collected the rain water. I looked in it recently and found a cup of red worms at the bottom. I thought yea they drowned, how did they get in there, why did they get in here? So I started to scoop the worms out to keep the rain water clean. When I dumped the worms back into the soil they were very much alive and moving alot and burrowed down quickly. So I got on-line and found my answer on wikipedia, so yes they can survive in water for long periods of time.
