It is actually not insecticide or "insect spray" exclusively. It actually should be called "arthropod spray" because it kills almost all arthropods; however, most people have no clue as to what an arthropod is. If you want to use slang, then it SHOULD be called "BUG" spray, but they can't because there is a group of insects called [true] bugs.

Spiders and insects are both invertebrates and arthropods. So they look pretty much alike until you count legs, look at how many main body parts they have, examine their eyes carefully, etc.
