Classification: Water fleas are cladocerans, which are crustaceans under the arthropods.

A water flea has an exoskeleton. Because of this it isn't an animal. Still, there are other classes of invertebrates that it could be such as a crustacean. Actually, a water flea isn't an insect. It is a crustacean.
