Yes. Publisher 2003 should be able to open older Publisher files from Office 2000, 97 etc.
With Office 2003 you get Publisher and that's about it With OpenOffice you can do everything Office can do beside publisher files and you also get a nice set of free fonts. Plus its free.
Yes, you can run Office 2003 Publisher alongside Office 2010 on the same computer. However, there may be compatibility issues when opening files created in the newer version with the older version. It’s advisable to save files in a compatible format to avoid any potential problems. Additionally, having both versions installed may result in some confusion regarding file associations and default programs.
Yes, Swift Publisher can only import .pub files if the version of Swift Publisher you are using is compatible with your version of Microsoft Office. For Example, You will NOT be able to open a .pub file of Office 2010 in an outdated version of Swift publisher (2003). Hope this helps.
No, Office 2003 does not save files in the PPTX format, as this format was introduced with Microsoft Office 2007. Instead, Office 2003 saves presentation files in the older PPT format. Users who need to work with PPTX files can convert their PPT files using later versions of PowerPoint or online conversion tools.

Yes it does. I have tried it on Vista 32 bit and Vista ultimate 64 bit and both worked fine as far as doing the simple work I was doing. One thing I had a problem with, but this is common to both Vista and XP, is opening Publisher files over a network when there are hundreds of files in the server directory. There's an irritating delay opening and saving network files, though this also happened under XP, but not Win 98. However don't think it will be improved by buying Publisher 2007 as it made the matter worse - unbelievably, you cannot set a default directory to be another computer on the network, only the computer Publisher is installed on, so this means big problems if you want several users working on and saving Publisher 2007 files to a server. Microsoft describes it as an oversight but haven't remedied it with a patch. Therefore in my experience of fairly basic Publisher files, 2003 works fine on Vista and has some features that are better than the 2007 edition.
The Microsoft Publisher 2007 is more advanced than the 2003.

A file format converter is when a newer version of a software program (ex. Microsoft 2007) can be converted to an older version (ex. Microsoft 2003).
Purchase an upgrade version of Office 2007 and install. It will replace the Office 2003 program files with the appropriate Office 2007 files. Your data files will remain unaffected. You can use all of your Office 2003 data files with Office 2007 (but Office 2007 files may not be backward compatible for Office 2003).
