A Pagan Perspective

The answer will depend entirely on what you mean by the word "wizard".

If you are referring to the images and ideas found in movies, on TV and in fictional books, such as, people who fly on carpets or broom, have sparks coming out of their wands, change people or things into something else, etc. well then, no.

These are the constructs of the fertile and wonderful imaginations of the authors, and creators and intended to amaze and entertain the audiences.

In all honesty I love the work and envy what the special effects people create, in some ways it would be wonderful to live in those imaginary worlds.

People who call or consider themselves Wizards these days are practitioners of the arts and sciences of magic, usually (but not always) outside of a spiritual path.

The word is not gender specific, both men and women are called Wizards, much as Witches are both men and women.

With enough study and hard work, yes, you can become a wizard, or a witch.
