Five examples where I used feedback to reassess my goals:

I had decided to further my education and I set many mini-goals to manage my time and studies. The types of feedback I used included:

  • Test scores let me assess whether I needed to study more to meet short-term goals (such as to be well-prepared long before mid-term exams).
  • Teacher evaluations or personal comments about my class work. Sometimes I realized I set my goals too high, or too low, depending on the teacher, the teaching style, class assignments, required extra work, etc.
  • My own personal assessment of my short-term and long-term goals, what I felt I could do, and motivation to push myself to learn more.
  • Responses of my family and how my classes and study time affected my family life.
  • The unexpected -- Usually life hands out unexpected crises and obstacles during any activity associated with any goals. How we handle these unexpected demands takes into account just how much we want to achieve our goals. The only "obstacles" that I would have let stop me were a terminal illness or my death-- neither happened to me, so I kept my eye on my long term goal throughout any obstacle, crisis, or strife.
