How long does it take for a person to get a job after filling an application?

That depends on the employer. I've had employers call me the same day I filled out the application. The longest time I waited? I filled out an application in January and they called me in July! I'd forgotten I'd even applied! But it was one of the best jobs ever -- and worth the wait! Yinzer's right! Just be aware that the hiring process takes longer than most candidates realize. The hiring manger has to do first and often second interviews for multiple candidates, check references, and often communicate with an HR dept., corporate office or regional manager. Even if they need to fill the position and are eager to hire someone, it takes time. A good average is probably 3-12 weeks for many positions.

Depends on how picky you are. If you go for the first thing they give you, you could get lucky and land a job fairly quickly. Two weeks if you hit a lot of stores. If you have a resume and your position is a complicated one to fill, whereas many people apply, and many interviews are performed, two to six months.

It doesn't really mean that any company or store has a set time to answer a job application, you just have to be patient and if after a week or so they haven't called you, call them and ask how things are going with your application.

People who are applying for employment do not need to keep a copy of their application, and employers who receive such applications really need to keep the applications only until the position for which people are applying has been filled, although employers do have the option of keeping applications on file as long as they like, just in case a new position opens up.
