Months. I was in the Army and was offered a federal job at the same hospital, in the same position as when I was on active duty and it still took forever. All of the paperwork that could have possibly been done before my discharge was completed and it still took 2 months before I was able to start back up as a civilian. During my time working for the government I have seen the hiring process take up to 5 months, with an average time of 3.5 - 4 months.
The hiring process for managers at Kroger's often involves three interviews. This final process including a background check can take between 1 and 2 weeks.
I started the application process in December 2009, took the POST in March 2010, met with a background investigator in February 2011 and will have my polygraph in March 2011. It seems to take a while.
Depends how stupid they are but yeah you hiring ?!
Competitive service positions in the federal government are filled through a competitive process, typically requiring applicants to take a civil service exam and meet specific qualifications. In contrast, excepted service positions are not subject to the same competitive hiring process and can be filled through alternative methods, often to meet specific needs or for specialized roles. This means that excepted service jobs may have different hiring criteria, making them more flexible in certain situations. Overall, competitive service emphasizes merit-based selection, while excepted service allows for more discretion in hiring.
