It depends on the type of facility and what level of warden. For a warden who is responsible for a whole Complex (multiple units of varying custody levels), $85,000 to start is a safe estimate. Many Complex Wardens can earn in the 100K+. Deputy Wardens, who are responsible for individual units within a prison complex, can expect to start in the $55,000 range. There are different levels of Deputy Wardens. For instance, a Deputy Warden of Operations can directly supervise Deputy Warden's but still is under the supervision of a Warden (or Complex Warden). An Associate Deputy Warden is sort of an entry level administrator who is under the direction of a Deputy Warden. Additionally, a Deputy Warden of a higher custody level facility will likely make more than that of a lower or medium custody unit. Most Warden level positions will require a Bachelor's degree with many more agencies now recommending Master's degrees.
