I have been Looking Online for the answers to this, -for a project- and here is what i researched so far:

She makes about 10,000 a year, 12,000 if she's lucky. That's including child support. The salon itself doesn't make much. She also only get a commission of what the client pays for my service. Some days minimum wage would be more than you would make all day, especially when you are starting out or are new to a town. Tips are very much appreciated to help cover our costs for training and our tools. Plus time is money. So if she does More people in a day than another stylist she's making a lot more than her because she works faster. It just depends on where she works. If it was a high end salon or a Chain Salon.

Some salons offer pay by the hour, most do booth rental... $65 - $100 a week, and some offer commission.

im from New Zealand so can only tell you in NZ dollars( which is roughly half American )

apprentices get paid mimimum wage which here is about $11 an hour and the apprenticeship takes about 3 years to complete, give or take.

newly qualifies senior hairdrssers would usually be on about $15 an hour plus commission ( about 25 % after making three times your bass wage weekly pay ) on an average busy week that works out to be about $700 per week ( about $350 American )

senior hairdressers with a big clientelle would maybe drop the bass wage completely and work on about 35% commission only from the get go, however being paid commission only they have to pay their own tax as it wouldn't be automatically deductd. alternatively .. depending on the size of the clientelle, will be paid close to minimum wage $13an hour maybe, that way the target for 3 times your wages would be met sooner rather than later and would take about 33% after that retainer, it all works out to be effectively the same, i have a friend who's one of aucklands busiest hairdressers and charges top dollar and takes home about $1500 NZD per week, most would be about $1000 though
