I have been searching maintenance and skilled labor positions for the last two years. This is my experience with maintenance positions. You are required to perform a vast, seemingly endless variety of tasks. You are ALWAYS on call, even on holidays. Pay scales are purposely kept obscure from the job descriptions and the experience required for many of these positions usually involves more than one trade discipline. Generally, there is little room for advancement. A revolving door of employees is typical because this is a position that will pay very little for your trade education (4 years carpentry, 2 years HVAC, 4 years electrical for me). Maintenance is the dirtiest word on the job market. Stay away from any job that posts it in its title. Good luck.

If you disagree, I would love to hear from you so that I can apply where you work.
