The half of the money they don't get goes back to the salon which covers products used and such. The half the stylist gets is their portion which then is taxed .. again, tips are imp. Be good to people who take care of your hair and they will take better care of you!!

I am a hairstylist who owns a very small salon studio in Minneapolis. I've been doing hair for 12 year and specialize doing color only. I earn approx. $90k per year and have generally earned about 10% more money each year that I've been in this industry.
