You can work at any age in a family business or farm.

In some places you can get a work permit to carry newspapers or shine shoes at 12.

Most states won't issue a work permit until you turn 16. And there are very rigid rules about the number of hours you can work on any day/week or month.

Honestly it depends on what state you live in. In Connecticut we no longer hire fifteen year olds but Massachusetts does. In CT minimal age is 16.
