When you are 16 you can get a job as either cashier or courtesy clerk. you have to be 18 for all other jobs.

if you aren't 18 or emancipated you will only get 20 hours a week during school. during the summer there are very strict rules for getting full time, in 2007 my store didn't allow minors to go over 20, in 2008 my store did, but my co manager explained that one violation and there would be no more minors getting full time, and everyone except me was told they would be fired as well. they tell the new hires that one violation will get them fired. Going over 4 hours without a lunch is technically a violation, so they wouldn't schedule you for over 7 hours a day(35 a week), but I didn't see the 4 hours enforced until they got close to the state mandated 5 hours. on non school days they only let you work between 6 AM and 10 PM, and on school days it's 3-10 PM, some stores cut off scheduling at 9:30 because you can get in trouble at 10:01
