Many students have problems from the time they start college. Most of them are particular to lack of appropriate guidance. Never attempt to design your own approach to a specific program of study. Every school will have a curriculum layout designed for the student to follow - once again - particular to their major program of study. Make sure you meet with one of the academic counselors and one of the career counselors at the college. They will tell you exactly what to take and when. Also, they will be able to inform you about the best way to reach your career goal as an orthodontist. Many individuals will take a basic program in Biology (some schools may have a pre-dental program), however this is not the only option. In the beginning, most of your courses be will part of the general education cluster to include English composition, math, social science, humanities etc., and some of the prerequisite coursework particular to your field of study. This may include general chemistry, biology, physics, (not all at once) etc. The important issue is to complete the required prerequisites for dental school. Once again, meet with the counselors mentioned above each semester before you register for your courses. I hate that saying from students, "But no one every told me." Don't let that happen to you.
