If an interviewer is playing a game to see if you're a dupe, then how will you know which side is right? I personally would accept the food and/or coffee (to be gracious) and then eat very little (to be professional).
You would hope that this question is general consideration, BUT many moons ago I read an interviewing how-to book that suggested you ask the potential employee if they want something to drink, to evaluate the response, as in, if the potential employee thinks that they are there to be served and catered to, how much trouble they are willing to put another employee through (or boss) to satisfy their own personal needs. It is best you eat and drink before the interview.
I seldom offer food of any type but I always offer a choice of drink when interviewing potential employees. To our organization it is irrelevant whether or not they accept. It seems rather juvenile and definitely unprofessional for an interviewer to use such a ploy in screening an applicant.
