Fire fighting can be hard, but after training it becomes easier. Every situation is different and nothing ever seems to go by the book so it can be extremely challenging. There is a "fitness level" that effective fire fighters should maintain, and it has a physical and an intellectual component. Fire fighters need to be in good physical condition, and they need to be sharp, need to be trained and "ready to go" with a mind conditioned to work through situations where confusion and panic might otherwise stop an individual. And, as stated, training and experience give the fire fighter the tools he needs to be able to respond.
