Is it possible to become a software engineer or network admin with a BSc in computer science but two felonies one for shoplifting at age 18 and one for ID document forgery at 20?

Now that you have 2 felonies, you will have to work harder than %90 percent of other people to find a good job. Especially since 9\11 companies do background checks to find out who they are working with. On the application it will ask you if you have ever been "convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor". Don't lie and I'll tell you why. They will do a background check and you will be denied employment automatically. If you do manage to slip past them, your application will always be on file and new managment could come in there re-check backgrounds which happens often, find out that you lied and fire you on the spot. This is after you've purchased a house, car, furniture, have wife and kids, etc. Now there's no way to pay for it. You don't want that situation. Understand that you have to face this head on. You can't lie about these things because our society won't accept or approve of it. One suggestion that I have for you is to go into business for yourself. May sound generalized but it's true. It's the way by which 90% percent of all new jobs are added to our economy each year. It's the mom and pop or small business. Your computer science degree can be used in a multitude of different ways but you need to find out how and make money doing it. Get used to thinking, working hard, cost-cutting, etc. It's what a lot of people have to do to survive.

Having two felonies on your record is going to make getting a job tough whether you are applying for an IT job or a job as a janitor. The shoplifting charge is bad enough. The charge for forgery probably has killed your chances in getting any job that requires security clearance -- including IT, banking, federal jobs, state jobs, etc. It would also depend on how old you are now. If these incidents happened ten years ago and you've been out of trouble since, some employers may forgive those charges and chalk them up as having had a wild youth. But if they happened recently, they probably won't take a chance on you. Sorry. ~ T
