It may be very difficult to find employment when you are a felon. I'm a felon myself. Most employers look down upon a criminal history, but that doesn't mean that you are a bad person, or even an evil person; you just made a mistake at one time in your life. The best option for a felon is to obtain an advanced degree or certification. Just like the average public (not felons), jobs may be hard to find. Many employers will use someone's criminal background, in negative economic times, to get the best pool of workers for rudimentary tasks. It is especially difficult in these poor economic times, not just for felons, but for everyone. There are numerous grant and loan programs that the government offers as an incentive to attend college courses. This money is available to felons, as it is to everyone else who requests it. It's obvious that the government may not hire felons; although I do have a friend who is a felon and works for the Department of State, but law enforcement may not be an option.

Take your time and do the research when looking for a job. You must show a potential employer that you are smarter than the competition. Dress for success, use appropriate jargon, and always make eye contact with whomever is conducting an interview. There are many jobs that hire felons whom aren't anal about every little mistake that was made in someones life.

Always pursue a pardon, and always attempt to increase your intelligence. Starting your own business may be an option for you once you build enough capital. Let's face it, most felons would like to own their own business anyway. Think positive.
