A radiographer or radiologic technician works with X-Rays. A sonographer works with medical ultrasounds. A radiologist is the Doctor Who reads both of these exams and writes a report.

Can ultrasound waves are alpha beta or gamma rays?

No, they are unrelated. Alpha and beta radiation are particle streams, not waves. And gamma rays are electromagnetic waves.

Why is ultra sound safer than x-rays?

Ultrasound is considered safer than X-rays because it uses sound waves rather than ionizing radiation to create images of the body's internal structures. Ionizing radiation from X-rays can increase the risk of cancer and other health issues with excessive exposure, whereas ultrasound poses no such risks. This makes ultrasound a preferred choice for imaging during pregnancy and for evaluating soft tissues, as it does not carry the same potential hazards associated with radiation.

Why is ultrasound less dangerous than x-rays?

I believe it is because ultrasound uses sound waves whereas x-rays are a form of ionizing radiation. (Ionizing radiation is radiation with enough energy to remove electrons from their orbit around a nucleus.) However, with today's advances in x-ray protection X-rays are not generally harmful unless in excessive amounts. Medical radiation (for the average individual) accounts for only 11% of the irradiation received over our lifetime. There are tons of consumer products (exit signs and skin lotions, for example) that expose us to radiation. Not to mention the sun... Anyway, my point is that ultrasound is probably safer than X-rays. But it is also important to know that the type of diagnostic information produced by each is different and if your doctor recommends you get an xray, don't insult him by suggesting an ultrasound instead. :)

Why is the the baby seen through and ultrasound and not a X-ray?

Ultrasounds are safer for the baby. X-rays emit a possibly dangerous amount of radiation.

What are the advantages of using ultrasound instead of xray?

it does not damage tissues with ionizing radiation. Ultrasound is also generally far better than plain x rays at distinguishing the subtle variations of soft tissue structures, and can be used in any of several modes

Can radiation be transferred from person to person?

No, radiation cannot be transferred from person to person. Radiation exposure occurs from sources such as X-rays, radioactive materials, or nuclear reactions, but it does not get passed from one person to another like a virus or bacteria.

Is 3D ultrasound safe during the third trimester of pregnancy?

Ultrasound is safe as it does not use radiation such as traditional xrays do. X-rays cannot be done because can cause damage to the fetus. However, ultrasound uses ultrasonic waves that are not harmful and can produce very clear pictures of a developig fetus.

What is ultrasound radiation?

At this time in medical research, no effects of radiation have been noted due to medical ultrasound. Biological effects have been seen, but these are almost exclusively caused purposely in labratories designed with the sole intent of testing these effects. The current equipment and regulations will not allow biological destruction of human tissue.
